La Navidad llegó a la fauna silvestre con el fortalecimiento del Centro de Atención y Derivación (CAD) en Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz, diciembre de 2025.- El Centro de Atención y Derivación de Fauna Silvestre (CAD) dio un paso importante en el fortalecimiento de la atención a la biodiversidad del departamento, con la entrega de las refacciones y el equipamiento que mejoran sus condiciones para la atención, rehabilitación y manejo de fauna silvestre afectada por distintas emergencias ambientales.
El CAD es una instancia pública dependiente de la Gobernación de Santa Cruz, encargada de recibir y atender fauna silvestre afectada por incendios forestales, tráfico ilegal, tenencia como mascotas y otras presiones derivadas de la actividad humana. La entrega de esta infraestructura refaccionada representa un avance concreto para mejorar la respuesta institucional ante el creciente impacto de las emergencias ambientales sobre la biodiversidad del departamento.
Las refacciones y el equipamiento se realizaron en el marco de un proyecto financiado por WWF Suecia, con la ejecución de la infraestructura a cargo de Fundesoc y, con el apoyo de WWF-Bolivia y WWF Suecia. Los trabajos incluyeron la ampliación de clínica veterinaria, mejoras en el cercado perimetral, adecuaciones en las instalaciones, reparaciones en techos y sistema eléctrico, pintura y la dotación de equipamiento esencial como jaulas, caniles, balanzas, refrigeradores para el almacenamiento de alimentos, lavadoras y otros insumos necesarios para la atención adecuada de la fauna silvestre.
Como parte del fortalecimiento integral del CAD, el proyecto también contempló una consultoría especializada en manejo de fauna silvestre, orientada a mejorar los procedimientos de atención, rehabilitación y derivación de los animales. Este acompañamiento técnico permitió optimizar la organización interna del centro, desarrollar protocolos básicos de atención y fortalecer las capacidades del personal y de brigadas locales para la respuesta ante emergencias, particularmente durante la temporada de incendios forestales.
El fortalecimiento del CAD responde a una necesidad urgente evidenciada en los últimos años, cuando los incendios forestales han incrementado de manera significativa el ingreso de fauna silvestre afectada, poniendo a prueba las capacidades operativas existentes. Mejorar las condiciones de atención no solo permite una respuesta más oportuna y técnica, sino que contribuye a la recuperación de los animales y, siempre que sea posible, su retorno a la vida silvestre.
Con este acto de entrega, la Gobernación de Santa Cruz, junto a WWF y Fundesoc, reafirman su compromiso con la conservación de la biodiversidad y con el fortalecimiento de las capacidades para proteger la fauna silvestre frente a las emergencias ambientales que enfrenta el departamento y el país.

Christmas came to wildlife with the strengthening of the Care and Referral Center (CAD) in Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz, December 2025.- The Wildlife Care and Referral Center (CAD) took an important step in strengthening the department's biodiversity care with the delivery of spare parts and equipment that improve its conditions for the care, rehabilitation, and management of wildlife affected by various environmental emergencies.
The CAD is a public body under the Santa Cruz Governor's Office, responsible for receiving and caring for wildlife affected by forest fires, illegal trafficking, pet ownership, and other pressures derived from human activity. The delivery of this refurbished infrastructure represents a concrete step forward in improving the institutional response to the growing impact of environmental emergencies on the department's biodiversity.
The repairs and equipment were carried out as part of a project funded by WWF Sweden, with Fundesoc responsible for the infrastructure intervention phase, supported by WWF Bolivia and WWF Sweden. The work included the expansion of the veterinary clinic, improvements to the perimeter fencing, adaptations to the facilities, repairs to roofs and the electrical system, painting, and the provision of essential equipment such as cages, kennels, scales, refrigerators for food storage, washing machines, and other supplies necessary for the proper care of wildlife.
As part of the comprehensive strengthening of the CAD, the project also included specialized consulting on wildlife management, aimed at improving procedures for the care, rehabilitation, and referral of animals. This technical support made it possible to optimize the center's internal organization, develop basic care protocols, and strengthen the capacities of staff and local brigades to respond to emergencies, particularly during the forest fire season.
The strengthening of the CAD responds to an urgent need that has become evident in recent years, when forest fires have significantly increased the number of affected wildlife admitted, putting existing operational capacities to the test. Improving care conditions not only allows for a more timely and technical response, but also contributes to the recovery of the animals and, whenever possible, their return to the wild.
With this handover ceremony, the Government of Santa Cruz, together with WWF and Fundesoc, reaffirm their commitment to biodiversity conservation and to strengthening capacities to protect wildlife in the face of environmental emergencies facing the department and the country.
