Soldiers in Bolivia’s Armed Forces stationed in Beni receive environmental training
Trinidad - On September 4th, National Protected Areas Day in Bolivia, the Prefecture of Beni officially launched the Project "Environmental Sentry", through which the Army’s training program incorporates the subject of environmental conservation, in collaboration with WWF Bolivia, the conservation organization.
The Prefecture will provide training manuals to 300 instructors and it is expected that 2000 soldiers will be trained from 12 military units (six of them within Iténez Protected Area). The manuals contain a description of Bolivian natural resources, its threats and how prevention should be approached in order to conserve the environment and promote sustainability criteria.
With this effort, the Bolivian Army, the Prefecture of Beni and WWF are targeting Bolivia's young adults that are carrying out their military service but that up until now learned about their country and geography in a theoretical manner.
The Army stated that it "considers important and timely to have a training process in which soldiers can also learn about current risks threatening national territory if we leave things as they are, as well as the benefits we can obtain if we all participate in taking care of it."
